This is such an interesting question because obviously I would not want to travel to places like North Korea or anywhere else that is hostile to Americans lol. Being in the southern US, I would also stay clear of the places known for cartel activity, particularly along the border and around the metropolitan areas, especially at night.
If we are just talking about the continental North American region, once again I would try to stay clear of densely populated areas. After all, we are wanting to get away from people and civilization in the van. Also, the more people there are, the more problems typically arise. While I am down to explore certain areas where there have been cryptid sightings, places in which there has been obvious satanic activity, no bueno.
