Strength Out of the Past (DP#255)

This is tough because I struggle to consider myself strong even now. This is not me saying I am weak necessarily, but due to my belief that the true strength comes from the Lord. Without Him, I would not have gotten this far.

That being said, I do remember back when I was going semi-regularly to counseling. My counselor, for the life of me I cannot remember her name, but she was so encouraging and uplifting after I talked with her about what I had been going through. I remember her looking me in the eye and telling me how far I have come.

When you have been holding onto negativity from your past whether it be trauma, resentment, anger and even hate, all that crap clouds your judgement and reality. Your mind cannot move on since it believes it is still going through that cycle. Thus, you cannot fathom your progression with healing.

When I finally began stepping out of those chains, I began to see and internalize that road from the rear view mirror. Instead of treating all those negative memories like current situations, I looked at them through the lens of an arduous journey that concluded many moons ago.

The past is in the past so that is where it shall stay.

  1. It seems like you skipped something. You mentioned your counselor and her telling you how far you have come. Then you started explaining about holding onto negativity. Is that something your counselor told you or did you come to that realization on your own?

    1. It was a combination of what she said and my own revelation if you will. What sparked the eureka moment was when she told me that I have gone far from my past. Sometimes it takes someone else pointing out your own progression before you can see it. That is where I was coming from.

About Me

Hello! I am Ashley and I simply love to read, and hope you do to!
I am currently 29 years old and living in the state of Texas, USA.

My favorite genres to read and review include romance, fantasy, mystery, and many subgenres of those as long as it is clean. I mainly get my books from my Kindle Unlimited membership, but I also found myself checking out library books on Libby as well.

As you can see, I do not solely post book reviews, I also love posting daily prompt writing, as well as stuff that is going on in my life currently. That being said, my passion is reading and reviewing books to my heart’s content, so hopefully that is something you are also interested in.

I do have a Goodreads where you can follow if you desire (no pressure!) I also have a StoryGraph, of which you can follow me here.
