Overrated Classic (DP#250)

I am probably going to get so much hate for this but I believe Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is completely overrated.

♦Spoiler Alert♦

All the unnecessary drama associated with marrying somebody solely due to money and status, while ignoring your true feelings is too much for me to have patience for.

On top of the crazy and unhinged behavior of Heathcliff with his whole mentality of “if I’m not happy, nobody can be” is so toxic, it is insane. I understand you got thrown to the back seat, but now you are placing all your pain onto your children and you will die angry and alone, congratulations!

The new movie that came out irritated me as well. All the trailers were constantly over romanticizing this toxic story. I just could not lol.

    Hi. Thank you for giving voice to what I have felt for a long time but could not say for the very same reason you pointed out in your first line. I hate the extremes the story goes to. It could have been a short story if nothing else.

      Of course! I guess I am just over what other people think of my opinion lol. If people get upset over my thoughts about a dang book, I am like why do you care so much?
      But yeah, I think it would have been much better as a short story if she wanted to keep it on the darker side. Otherwise, it went on for too long in my opinion.

      Same! The way it was hyped and gushed about, I was expecting an amazing romance akin to Jane Austen but no. It was insane.

    I always hated Wuthering Heights. Give Me jane eyre if you’re gonna give me a Brontë.
