First and foremost, reading!
The books I tend to get myself lost in the longest are typically fantastical in nature. There may be a whimsical world to explore, zany characters who drag me around everywhere, magical systems that keep me intrigued and some grand plot stocking my interest. The slice-of-life themes are lovely as well. Experiencing a bit of monotony in this created space forces me to slow down and get even more immersed into the world. Good luck getting me out lol
Videogames are another amazing activity in which time becomes relative. Adventure, RPG’s, survival, horror: these genres glue me to my seat (semi-permanently). The Elder Scrolls ALWAYS come to mind as Oblivion was THE game for me that changed how I approach gaming in general. Before that I played predominantly earlier Wii games or top down/side scrollers, so the whole fact Oblivion was not only in first person but also in a massive 3-D world…..Life changing. When I feel as though I want to escape fast, I jump on survival mode on Skyrim and just walk around lol. The beautiful backdrops, crazy NPC’s and that gorgeous soundtrack, gets me hooked immediately.
While the breaks from reality are exciting and needed at times, it is also important to keep one foot in the real world. There have been times in which I completely lost track of time and ended up missing school or even work. Stomach dropping anxiety is not the best way to break the immersion lol
