Building Out the Van (Part Seven)

Well, the van is back in the shop and has been for about the past week. During this down time, Kolton put together this 3-D model of what the inside is going to look like so I thought I would share that on here:

1: This is where we are going to have the bed from east to west. It will cover that whole area from 3-2.

2,3: These pockets are going to be for storage, probably clothes, outdoor gear, things of that nature.

4: Right underneath the bed is going to be where our fridge/freezer is going to go. The bed itself is going to be able to lift up so we can access this.

5: This is our dry food/kitchen appliance storage. This will basically be floor to roof for optimal storage space.

6: Our sink! Along the wall in front of it, we are probably going to be hanging up some utensils for washing dishes and cooking.

7: This is going to be our drinking water Igloo that is gonna chill there.

8: Up under the sink, we are going to have two water tanks: one for fresh water that is going to be attached to the faucet for cooking and washing dishes, and one for gray water which is what is going to be collected after it goes down the drain.

9: In this cabinet area, we are going to be putting our trash, toiletries and cleaning supplies. The camping toilet we will have will probably be situated to the right of this space, right behind the driver seat.

10: This space underneath the counter, is going to be where our propane tank is going. This is going to be an air-tight space with a hole drilled through the bottom of the van for ventilation purposes in case it leaks for some reason.

11: Up underneath the counter right here is where we are going to be placing our solar generator as well as our camping stove/burner.

12: This is going to be our cooking counter, whenever we are cooking, we will just hook up the Coleman to the propane tank and use the remainder of the space for food prep.

That is about it for now!

  1. In the early days at the Academy, there what’s known as the 6 P’s:

‘Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance’.

How cool to see Kolton’s 3D plan for the van and your breakdown of the layout. So the bed will be a mattress on top, I gather?

    1. Lol I love the 6 P’s!
The most nerve-wracking part is always the cutting of the wood. Basically, just measure everything three times, then cut.
Yes! the bed is going on top of that rectangular area. It will also serve as our chill-out space with those pillows that help you sit up.

      1. Yes, I can imagine getting the measurements right would be exhausting.
        Sounds a very comfy set-up.

      2. It is definitely going to be real comfy lol It will take some time to get used to. Particularly me who needs some time to myself. We are also getting a detachable awning so that we can sit outside in the shade if either of us needs more room.

      3. That detachable awning is a great idea. And you just get those fold out deck chairs and you’ll be in ‘Any town USA’ ROFL.
Reminds me of that scene in Seinfeld with Kramer and the fly screen door lol ‘Hello is Kramer home’?:

      4. That is the idea for sure! Lol that clip is hilarious 🙂

      5. I can’t get enough of it. I think my kids are bigger fans of the show than I am. They will watch it at every opportunity. It’s crazy.

      6. That is hilarious since Seinfeld was always an old person show to me lol

      7. Yeh, it is definitely adult comedy, but they just happen to be crazy for it. I’m certainly glad it’s that show they are hooked on. I reckon it’s choc-full of good life lessons.

      8. True True. As far as adult shows are concerned, Seinfeld is pretty mild compared to the garbage that is around today.
