- READ! – Number one fun making machine right here for me lol I have been on a kick recently just waiting for the van to be mechanically fine. I have branched out a bit into reading multiple books at a time, just to get through some challenges I am participating in. I am already three or so books ahead of my yearly goal so that just further motivates me to read even more. Being in a good place mentally and emotionally right now feels great so I am taking full advantage!
- Writing – As always, I have been trying to keep up with these daily posts as well as the book reviews. I am not going to lie, this has been feeling more like a chore a bit, but I know it is still positive for my mental health to keep it going.
- Play videogames – Right now, I have been playing some less cozy and more frustrating/rewarding games like Spelunky and Undermine. Rogue likes have been on the rise for me so Vampire Survivors, The Binding of Isaac, Into the Gungeon, etc are all on the horizon for me I think.
- Youtube – We have been watching some gaming channels such as Ambiguous Amphibian, and Joov. As well as some more serious legal channels such at Atozy and Legal Mindset. There are also some hilarious reaction channels like GregBroDudeMan who reviews more horror related content and Jaime French who does hilarious reviews of bad movies and TV shows.
- Listening to Music – Wether I am playing a videogame or driving in the car, we have been bumping alot to some ATliens radio (very dubstep/electronic style). I have also grown my appreciation for some rap and hiphop like Yellawolf and Tech N9ne. These are not the most appropriate music but they have been scratching an itch in my brain a bit. When I am wanting to chill, I have playlists on Youtube and Pandora that I am obsessed with that involves a slew of genres including folk, pop, country, rock, rap, electronic, ect. Pretty much anything I vibe with.

Ashley, nice vibe. Crushing reading goals, rogue-like gaming highs, and eclectic tunes – you’re glowing in that mental sweet spot. Keep owning it!

Thank you Dinesh! I am trying to for sure.

Good luck with the van, Ash! I’m really glad to hear you’re in a good place.
I’ve never really read multiple books at the same time – except when I was studying at uni 😉 You’re tearing through them though! Nice. I’ve been doing more audio listening lately, mostly around historical events.
It’s a shame that blog writing is starting to feel like a chore for you. Why do you think that is?
Before I start writing – like I did this morning for tomorrow’s post – I often feel daunted by the process, as if the task is just too big. I’ve had to learn to be patient and let the ideas (the angle) come to me and sometimes you just have to write gobbely-gook to get your brain activated and then the idea eventually comes and effectively you start all over again. Anyhows, once I’m settled into it, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be… except maybe the gym or with my kids.
It’s funny now – when I look back at some of my earlier posts from years ago, they make my skin crawl. I often feel the need to update them, even if it’s just the formatting. At least they’re reasonably laid out – forget the wording, that’s another level of bad altogether! I just don’t have the time to fix all of that.
Wow, you guys are really deep into the gaming scene – playing, watching channels, the whole lot. It was great to get this update on what you’re up to and into.

Thank you, Matt, we actually got her back today! So she is chillin in the driveway as we speak. It has been a bit of a hectic one for sure.
Oh same here. I used to hate reading multiple things at once. I am mainly doing it to try to get ahead with the reading so that I am ahead by the time we are officially moving into the van.
I think writing feels like a chore right now due to all the stress I am going through in life. Every other thing that takes brain power feels like a bit too much at times. I am trying to push through though because I want to be able to look back and be reminded of how far I have come.
I get what you are saying about your own personal writing and the issues you have with it. I just look at it like an example you will have to gauge how much you truly have improved.
-
Well, that was timely – you got your car back right on the day of writing. I hope she’s mechanically tip-top, or at least well on her way there.
Reading multiple novels at the same time would certainly keep you on your toes. I can imagine it’s a great exercise for the brain too, staying malleable as you move between different stories and settings.
I can also see how writing might feel a bit cumbersome on top of everything else going on during this exciting period. Sometimes it’s important to give yourself a break – and if that means switching off and enjoying some more non-exertive pursuits, then so be it.
I wish you a very pleasurable weekend, Ash. Cheerio
-
For the most part yes. She still has some work mechanically but we are getting there!
One good thing about reading multiple books is if one of them is kinda having a downer moment, you can jump to another that is way more positive and chill. It is perfect for my constantly changing emotional state lol
Its like I have the desire to read for sure but my attention span is a bit jacked at the moment so I can maybe get through a few smaller chapters at a time before my motivation takes a swan dive off a cliff.
I hope your weekend is fantastic as well Matt!

That’s cool your interchanging books to offset prevailing moods and spaces they are in.
I need my attention diverted from my getting too lonely and bored and that the days pass by quicker – So to help with that I am writing more. I also study Spanish and read meditations of the Day published on an AA whatsapp group lolBut tomorrow, I’m back to gym so that should fill in most of my days. Kids go back to school on Wednesday. NFL this afternoon and then the Australian open after . Giddyup!
I hope you guys got through the Winter Storm, alright and you are feeling good. -
I am glad you are finding writing to be a good filler of your time! Studying a language and reading those meditations sound like great pastimes as well. I hope they are making your days more bearable for sure.
We will probably not be able to go back to the gym until Tuesday which stinks but I wish you all the gains! Were your kids still on Winter Break? Luckily there are plenty of sports to keep your attention as well.
We probably have one more day of being iced in, but the worst of the storm has skipped over us, into the deeper south. I have always loved winter weather periods like this, so I am just vibing lol
-
Yeh, I need to be strict with the ‘meditations’ and read them daily, or else I could get into trouble again.
My kids were on their long Christmas and end of year break. It’s a ridiculous long time here in Colombia. There are no seasons here, just wet and dry.
I was watching the snow storm in the Denver game yesterday. In one hour it went from a normal dry pitch to completely snow covered. Id’ never seen that before..ever.
Sweet, that the storm has now passed on – although you really do love these times….what! heheHave a great week Ash!
-
I hear that! Well, I wish you the best luck with keeping the vices at bay.
Oh wow. The kids here went back the first week of January. That is a LONG break for your kiddos. I hope they can transition seamlessly back to school mode.
Yeah, this storm was both extremely fast in producing precipitation, but it was also slow moving, so it would be dumping snow for longer than desired.
We are definitely at the end of it for us. The sun is out in full force today and there is actually some melting going on, even though it is still well below freezing.
Have a great week yourself!
-
Thanks again for your lovely well wishes, Ash.
Yes, the kids’ break is ridiculously long – not to mention the mountain-load of religious holidays they get (long weekends galore). Let’s just say the teachers have it pretty good here and are paid rather well too, comparatively speaking.
So yeah, it sounds like you guys copped one heck of a drawn-out snowstorm. You won’t be complaining that you didn’t get enough to enjoy some of your favourite weather, lol. It’s great that the sun is back out though – I imagine that’s more than welcome for most.
Yesterday we had a torrential tropical downpour in the afternoon. Despite the refuge of my umbrella, my shoes, jacket, and backpack were drenched to the bone. Only my shorts got away unscathed, lol.
Cheers, friendo

Dang, that is insane. We have always gotten just three weeks off in the fall/winter, and one week off in the spring. Plus, summer but I would prefer shorter summer vacations, and longer breaks in the year.
Yeah it was a bit hectic. Even today, it is going to take a while for everything to thaw out and dry. I know over one million people lost power which is insane.
Dang I am sorry. I absolutely hate wearing drenched clothes. It is positively dreadful. That is funny about your shorts being dry though.
-
You are very picky about your vacations lol But yeh, I am also fickle about when my kids should have their’s.
Oh, yeh walking back home from the gym totally drenched, knowing my shoes and backpack wouldn’t dry for two days was very wearying. Only now are they right to go! One thing I learnt from the experience is I need a much bigger umbrella and some way to water-proof my shoes and backpack.
I’m not a fan of the weather here in wet season where just after midday you can expect a prolonged storm come through almost daily. Yukky
-
I am lol Those endless weeks in between breaks are the absolute worst.
Ugh I hate that for you but I am glad you seem to at least be somewhat used to it. I would definitely advise for a bigger umbrella. There is also this spray you may have access to that adds a layer of water proofing to your stuff.
I understand your distaste of the wet season for sure. My favorite weather has got to be overcast with the smell of rain on the breeze. I like the effects of rain, not the never-ending downpour lol
-
I tell ya how absent-minded I can be. It just occurred to me, I could have put my backpack on my front (reverse) which would have mostly protected it from the rain. (slaps head).
I’ll look up the spray stuff. Cool!Your favourite weather is interesting – smell of rain in the air. I get ya!
My favourite time here when I find the weather most pleasant are the mornings from about 9am – 12 pm. It’s moderate temp, quite sunny, with a hint of a temperate breeze. Gorgeous. The afternoons are typically either storms or an uncomfortable sticky heat where the UV rays are at their strongest – hear, near the equator. Yuk. -
Lol I completely understand that Matt. I am always cringing at the things I should have done in any situation.
I do believe the spray is made for shoes and clothes? I imagine at least.Oh yes! I love that time window as well. I mainly love the smell and feeling right before a thunderstorm rolls through. There is a sense of calm with a crackle of energy in the air that is nostalgic but also exciting in a way.
That sounds gorgeous Matt. Ugh yeah, I can imagine the humidity down there, sounds miserable.

● About Me

Hello! I am Ashley and I simply love to read, and hope you do to!
I am currently 29 years old and living in the state of Texas, USA.
My favorite genres to read and review include romance, fantasy, mystery, and many subgenres of those as long as it is clean. I mainly get my books from my Kindle Unlimited membership, but I also found myself checking out library books on Libby as well.
As you can see, I do not solely post book reviews, I also love posting daily prompt writing, as well as stuff that is going on in my life currently. That being said, my passion is reading and reviewing books to my heart’s content, so hopefully that is something you are also interested in.
I do have a Goodreads where you can follow if you desire (no pressure!) I also have a StoryGraph, of which you can follow me here.
