What’s in a Name? (DP#140)

Ashley – one of the most popular names for girls born in the US from 1980. Inspired by the same surname Ashley, or Ashleigh. It means “clearing among the ash trees” from Old English.

Ash – common type of forest tree in Eurasia, North America and North Africa. It has roots in Germanic, Norse, and Dutch. The wood of the ash tree is tough and elastic, making it a preferred wood for spear shafts, so Old English sometimes wrote “ash” to mean “spear”, particularly in poetry. It could also mean “company armed with spears” “spearplay” or even “war”.

Lea- Old English “leah” which means “open field, meadow, piece of untilled grassy ground”

Basically, I am meant to be outside and potentially a warrior with a propensity for throwing things lol

Ooh by the way, there is a winter storm coming to the south US. It is supposed to hit us here in North Texas on Friday. There is a chance the power will go out, similar to the “Great Texas freeze in 2021”. I will hopefully still be posting since we do have a generator now, but I would appreciate the prayers for everyone’s safety. We do not want a repeat of what happened on I-35 with all the pile up wrecks and death. Per the picture up above, we are already getting some precipitation here, it is just too hot right now for it to freeze over yet.

  1. Interesting facts and picture. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thank you for reading 🙂

  2. This was fascinating to learn about your name. I had no idea it was such a popular modern name in the US. ‘Propensity for throwing things’ Haha

I like your name, but don’t get mad at me – I prefer the spelling of Ashleigh – it sounds more regal or distinguished or something. Hehe. You know I can be a snooty-nose LOL

Oh, that was an ominous signing off about the predicted winter storm. Stay safe Ash! You’ll be in my thoughts.

    1. Lol I am not mad, but I disagree with you. I will say this; Ashleigh is not as frustrating to me as Ashlee or Ashly or even Ashlie. Ashleigh makes me want to pronounce it like Ash-LAY since it looks like neigh like what a horse do lol The other ones just look incomplete and that irritates me…….lol

Yeah, the grocery stores have been picked clean of a bunch of stuff. People still have PTSD from when the power grid shut down back in ’21 so there are alot of feelings and anxieties. I love a good winter storm myself, as long as I have to ability to get warm. I appreciate the thoughts Matthew!

      1. Like ‘neigh’ haha. I see your reasoning.
I haven’t seen snow, so I understand you wanting for a good one, but as you say as long as you can find warmth. I just hope it all ends well.

      2. Well, I disagree with you! lol I just hope you are are all well and sound.
