Dream Job (DP#139)

I have thought about this pretty much all my life and honestly, I still have yet to figure out a direct answer.

As mentioned in previous posts, I would love to create travel books/blogs that have a focus on the history side of things while also feeling like an itinerary for people who are planning to visit as well. While it sounds like a dream job on paper, I know there are those headache inducing sides of publishing or reaching your audience, that I am not too sure I want to pursue. I am willing to give it a shot nonetheless, since we are being blessed by the ability of being nomadic.

I have also gained a new appreciation and interest in becoming a ranger for a national forest or park. Just thinking of all the useful knowledge that is to be found in a position like that, is exciting enough for me to seek out that career. Heck, even a fire lookout would be absolutely awesome. Basically, I would LOVE to be able to grow my love for being outdoors while I am on a job. I could add so much more helpful information to my books such as wildlife that may be encountered during your stay and how to deal with them in a safer manner.

As you can see, I am still very much in this floating stage of life in which I can feel myself being pulled in a general direction, which is a blessing in of itself. The most exciting part is that I do not know where I will land just yet. I am anxious to see what God has in store for me for sure 🙂

  1. I can picture you as a ranger in a national forest. I completely understand why that would appeal to you -how cool would that be? I once worked as a fire lookout in the early 2000s, during a time when some terrible fires were encroaching on our base south of Sydney. Thankfully, the firefighters managed to contain what could have turned into a major disaster.
That feeling of being in a kind of floating state actually sounds pretty good. I truly hope you end up loving whatever you decide to do, Ash.

    1. Whoa! You were a lookout? That is so sick man. I imagine since you were on the base, that you did not have to deal with as much isolation. Unless I am totally wrong lol I do not know how big yalls bases are down there. Did you enjoy doing that?
There is definitely something freeing about being in this phase for sure since the sky is the limit. Thank you !

      1. Yeh, me and this other guy had a shift. When you are up that high and see the incoming fires and then hear the firefighters on the radio doing their stuff – it’s pretty engrossing if the fires are still yet to be contained.
It was all very stressful because at the exact same time as the threat of approaching fires, my young family and I were in the middle of moving house – on base. So I was busy with that, filling up the bathtubs with water (looking after my family’s welfare in general) and doing duties such as fire lookout and ‘Officer of the Day’ on base. It was full-on and that’s putting it mildly!
Thanks for asking about it Ash.

      2. That is so freaking cool though. Unfortunately, a bunch of towers up here have been decommissioned so finding a lookout job is kind of difficult for us.
I can imagine it was stressful! Just being in the military, especially with your family living on base but still having your everyday duties and tasks and real-life threats in your own backyard…yeah no. I would not have handled that well.
Your background is interesting to say the least. I have army, navy and air force family members but they have never been one to talk about their everyday jobs in the military.

      3. I didn’t handle it well and told a Superior to go take a flying jump at the time I was leaving house. He was an arsehole anyway. It’s only because of your job aspirations and the fire tower thing, that I recalled the whole affair it to be honest. That’s what I’m saying, is how your posts continually just bring it out in me. I’m sorry for you lol

      4. All good! I honestly find military stuff especially in other countries interesting as all heck.
Man, sometimes Superiors just have a big ole stick up their butt and need to be taken down a few pegs.

About Me

Hello! I am Ashley and I simply love to read, and hope you do to!
I am currently 28 years old and living in the state of Texas, USA.

My favorite genres to read and review include romance, fantasy, mystery, and many subgenres of those as long as it is clean. I mainly get my books from my Kindle Unlimited membership, but I also found myself checking out library books on Libby as well.

As you can see, I do not solely post book reviews, I also love posting daily prompt writing, as well as stuff that is going on in my life currently. That being said, my passion is reading and reviewing books to my heart’s content, so hopefully that is something you are also interested in.

I do have a Goodreads where you can follow if you desire (no pressure!) I also have a StoryGraph, of which you can follow me here.
