Why Do I Blog? (DP#8)

To me, blogging is the next logical step for what I used to do with pencil and paper when I was younger. The journals and diaries I kept began as close confidants to my inner machinations, evolving into a daily log and dream journal. They were pretty cringey at times, particularly the ones scribbled in ink by the hands of a child, but they were all me. Unfortunately, I have lost trace with most of these journals which is why I am opting for the electronic route. It solidifies your being into a more permanent medium at least until the internet goes down permanently but we won’t dwell on that too much lol

Nowadays, my writings are more of a merging of another passion of mine, reading. I love the adventure of chasing down my next read, flying through the pages and creating the words to express my thoughts of it in a review layout. Without the intent to write these reviews, I do not think I would have gotten back into reading like I am currently. After all, I have read four books, and starting on my fifth, all in the span of a week. I cannot tell you the last time, if ever, I accomplished that. Already, blogging has been so motivating, allowing my attention span to chill out enough to get through novels.

Ultimately, blogging opens the door to allow myself to express emotions and my thoughts in an easier format to reach those who care enough to read. I am full of excitement to see where this blog goes 🙂

  2. Eloquently expressed, Ashley.

    1. Thank you so much!

  3. I wish you well on your blogging journey and I’m glad it has enhanced your appetite for reading.

    1. Thank you so much!!

      1. I began blogging in 2014 and launched my music library project in 2019. Despite having only a small readership, it’s been a source of great joy and personal catharsis. I was going to ask you how you read so often with the amount of book reviews you write.

      2. I love that for you! Music has always been a huge part of my life as well. That is how I feel about books! It helps when the books I have read average about 200-something pages. I would not consider myself a fast reader per se, but I take full advantage of any and all free time I have lol

  4. Thanks. My ideal week includes posts on news, literature, movies and of course music. I’ve been struggling for time of late because of family and medical appointments. I was reading avidly until my latest book which I’m struggling to get into. Do you have a Good reads page where you track your reading history and progress? Reading truly is a wonderful past time.

    1. That feels like a productive week for sure! It can be destabilizing when your own health starts attacking your ability to do what you enjoy so I am sorry for that. I did have a Good Reads page, but I deleted everything on there. Plus, I only read one book at a time, so it did not really seem like a need to keep track of them all. Otherwise, I use Kindle Unlimited and that keeps tracks of the books for me lol

  5. My health is fine thank goodness. These appointments are just part of an annual check up – lots of tests etc.

I only read one book at a time too. I used to have a Kindle but it suddenly stopped working. I so miss it, but there’s no tech support in Colombia for it.

    1. Good!

I do not have one either, I go through Amazon and use Kindle that way, just on my computer.

I have to read one book at a time just as to not get details mixed up in my head lol for reviews, that is a nightmare.

      1. You read books on your PC via an Amazon application? Are they free?

You don’t read actual books in bed or whatever?

      2. Yes! There is a Kindle Unlimited section of Amazon’s website that allows you to have electronic access to tons and tons of books.
The Kindle Unlimited membership is about 12 dollars a month here so it’s not free but when I signed up about two weeks ago, I got in on a deal where it was only a couple bucks for a whole TWO months, so I won’t have to pay again until October.
I do have a library card, but it needs to be renewed so I have not been to my local library in a while for physical books.

      3. Ok, that sounds cool about the Amazon membership. My reading preferences leans towards classic English literature or foreign – like Dostoevsky or Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I used to buy them second hand, but the local bookstore prices have increased so much, I now buy them new from another place.

You just gave me a good idea about a huge library we have near here which undoubtedly has English books, which I should try to borrow from. Why that hadn’t occurred to me before, gosh knows! Thanks!

      4. Oh I hear you about the prices! The bargain bin style bookstores over here feel more like a bougie bookstore now as far as prices are concerned.
I highly recommend libraries since they are typically free to have a card, plus they may have a sharing system with other libraries nearby so you can borrow from those places as well with the same card.

      5. ‘bougie bookstore’ – that made me laugh. Great descriptor haha.
I must go to the library. I think I’ll take my daughter on Sunday morning. Thanks again!

About Me

Hello! I am Ashley and I simply love to read, and hope you do to!
I am currently 29 years old and living in the state of Texas, USA.

My favorite genres to read and review include romance, fantasy, mystery, and many subgenres of those as long as it is clean. I mainly get my books from my Kindle Unlimited membership, but I also found myself checking out library books on Libby as well.

As you can see, I do not solely post book reviews, I also love posting daily prompt writing, as well as stuff that is going on in my life currently. That being said, my passion is reading and reviewing books to my heart’s content, so hopefully that is something you are also interested in.

I do have a Goodreads where you can follow if you desire (no pressure!) I also have a StoryGraph, of which you can follow me here.
