TV shows I watched as a kid (DP#3)

I was born in 1997, so I remember mainly the cartoons from the early 2000’s. My sister and I used to watch Cartoon Network, Disney Channel and Nickelodeon. There were also some good shows on PBS Kids and Discovery Kids we would watch from time to time.

Some of our favorites include Courage the Cowardly Dog, Scooby Doo, Spongebob Squarepants, Jimmy Neutron, Fairly Odd Parents, the list could honestly go on and on. When I got to around middle school we would watch Justice League: Unlimited which was pretty cool, that would come on around 10pm at night every week.

On Discovery Kids, I remember on Saturday nights, there would be scarier shows that would come on. One such show was Truth or Scare. It was hosted by Michelle Trachtenberg (RIP) in which she would tell these creepy stories and there would be people acting them out. Man, that show CREEPED me out and I remember struggling to sleep some nights after. One such episode was one in which a lady was trying to sleep on her back and when she opened her eyes, there was a scary looking ghost inches away from her face, just watching her with anger in his eyes. I tell you; I still struggle sleeping on my back to this day.

The kids shows we would watch included The Wiggles, The Backyardigans, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Between the Lions, Out of the Box, Gullah Gullah Island, Barney, The Teletubbies, and Boohbah.

Some of the shows we probably should not have been watching were like Ed Edd and Eddy, Ren and Stimpy, even some episodes of Courage. During that phase of cartoons that made you question if these truly were for kids you know?

The late 90s and early 2000s were probably peak cartoon age, at least in my opinion. Unfortunately, the stuff I see on air today feels lackluster to the stuff I grew up with.

  1. Shows I watched as a child in the 70’s and early 80’s (in Australia) which I can think off the top of my head were Sesame Street, Play School, Flintstones and the Jetsons. When my kids were young we watched a lot of the Wiggles too. Cheers.

    1. The Wiggles were a hit in the household for sure. We have tried getting my three-year-old niece to sit down and watch the Jetsons and other Boomerang cartoons, but she is not amused lol The generational gap between children’s cartoons is crazy.

      1. I think I was a bigger fan of The Wiggles than my kids were. I actually miss that whole period of watching Sesame Street, Play School and the Wiggles with my kids. I see what you mean about the generational gap in what children find entertaining. My daughter who is nine and I still like to watch Peppa Pig. lol
