The Grudge

What’s a book or movie that genuinely scared you?

So many books and movies have scared me, for sure. However, one movie in particular freaked me out so much when I first saw it, that it has become ingrained in my brain.

The Grudge (2004)

I remember one of the few times we were allowed to rent something from Blockbuster, it was a night in which my best friend was spending the night. We obviously wanted to watch something scary, and the cover looked absolutely terrifying. Mind you, we were in Elementary School, I believe, so any creepy looking female with long hair covering her face, was extremely unsettling to me.

Needless to say, we were both so scared the entire movie. The one scene that has always stood out to me was when the helper lady for the mom, heard a noise coming from the attic. She went to investigate, with nothing but a lighter by the way, and was jump scared and pulled into the attic by the Grudge. Oof that freaked me out.

These movies also made me become wary of Japanese style homes. All the sliding doors and tight closets made the creep factor, all the more tangible to me.

I have since went back and watched the first three movies with Kolton, and while I cannot experience the same level of horror as I once did, there will always be something so unsettling about the Grudge and her cat-boy son. The whole story of how much a curse can spread was terrifying as well.

Personally, I would not watch the TV series, as there are some unnecessarily graphic scenes that I felt went too far.

As you can see, I do not solely post book reviews, I also love posting daily prompt writing, as well as stuff that is going on in my life currently. That being said, my passion is reading and reviewing books to my heart’s content, so hopefully that is something you are also interested in.
