Never Stop Learning!

Daily writing prompt
Are you a lifelong learner?

Absolutely!
I believe it is in our best interests to always be on the hunt for ways to increase our knowledge everyday.

I know I have mentioned my grandmother before on this blog but she has been quite relevant for many a prompt lol. She is almost 90 years old and even though her hearing has given her issues, her mind is still very much there. I contribute this, one to God obviously, but also to the fact that she has always been engaging in creative outlets and strengthening her mind with puzzles. She plays the piano, paints, she used to crochet until her arthritis got too bad, and just completed a whopping 5000 piece puzzle! We always joke around that she will end up outliving us all, and perhaps that would not be too far off lol.

Most of us forget at times that our brain is a muscle that starts deteriorating when we neglect it. Just like our arms and legs, it needs to be worked out and put through its paces to get stronger. Sure, learning new things and skills may be tough and frustrating at first, but when you start understanding more and more, it is so incredibly edifying and satisfying!

Not to mention, having multiple hobbies and points of interests gives a more exciting life than just sitting in front of the TV all day.

A 5000-piece puzzle at almost 90 — I’m genuinely in awe, and a little competitive on her behalf now! It’s no coincidence her mind stays so sharp when she’s painting, playing piano and puzzling; you make a great case that the brain is a muscle. We try to keep that spirit going with our kids on the road, swapping screens for puzzles and new skills whenever we can. Please give your grandmother a high five from a fellow believer in never sitting still.

    1. Thank you for your sweet comment! She did have a bit of help at times. It is almost a family tradition for all of her guests to place a few pieces before they leave, lest she will hold you hostage lol but she did the majority herself for sure. I am telling you, her mind has been almost too sharp at times, catching on to things and noticing things I may not have wanted her to lol. I am glad you are teaching your kids to exercise their minds like that. It truly does such wonders for the longevity of not just the brain, but physically and emotionally as well. I will let Memaw know of your encouragement! Thank you 🙂

About Me

Hello! I am Ashley and I simply love to read, and hope you do to!
I am currently 29 years old and living in the state of Texas, USA.

My favorite genres to read and review include romance, fantasy, mystery, and many subgenres of those as long as it is clean. I mainly get my books from my Kindle Unlimited membership, but I also found myself checking out library books on Libby as well.

As you can see, I do not solely post book reviews, I also love posting daily prompt writing, as well as stuff that is going on in my life currently. That being said, my passion is reading and reviewing books to my heart’s content, so hopefully that is something you are also interested in.

I do have a Goodreads where you can follow if you desire (no pressure!) I also have a StoryGraph, of which you can follow me here.
