When it comes to people on Youtube and how they make me feel while consuming their content, I have learned to stick to my initial gut feeling. While I am going to stick to more broad examples (mainly since this has truly happened too many times to count) if you are familiar with all the ‘drama’ surrounding that platform, you should understand lol.
There are certain people on Youtube that I have been watching for years and years, whether by my own choice, or through my husband. Most of them have been fine and have felt like genuine people. That being said, a big slew of them have always come off as very selfish and ‘clout seeking’ without being too obvious about it. After all, when I first started watching Youtube regularly, IRL streaming was not really a thing so the abhorrent behavior was more under the table so to say.
Most of the channels we would watch centered around gaming and commentary which you would think would be innocent enough but apparently not. Anytime I started getting a bad gut feeling with these individuals, we would begin backing off from their content. It was always something minor at first that would irk me like certain comments they would make or having a ego-centered and argumentative personality, sometimes out of nowhere.
Come to find out, this individual would later be the center of some sort of controversy or straight up case. I cannot tell you how many weird and sick people are on social media. People who have adult conversations and interactions with MINORS, get caught then have their whole livelihoods stripped from them within a day. In some cases even they would off people in their own families which is just terrible.
This just goes to show that you never truly know someone on the internet. In these cases, I would recommend to always follow your gut when it comes to your interactions and how much time and energy you give these people.
It truly is a sick place out there so please be careful of who you allow into your lives.
