I think one of the biggest misconceptions about happiness starts with where we believe it comes from. Money, fame, popularity, power are some of the more sought after goals of happiness we tend to create. While I am not one to downplay people’s journeys in their own lives, I think it can become detrimental to make happiness synonymous with just one characteristic. There should be a better blend of idealistic and realistic goals to reach to balance out the inevitable disappointment that comes during a slow season.
On the flip side, I always hear from the more pessimistic side that true happiness is fleeting or impossible to achieve. While I can understand this viewpoint (I tend to fall into this category more often than not) it would do all of us good to realize happiness ultimately does not stem from circumstances but from the heart. Happiness is truly a spiritual phenomenon in my opinion as I have known people who had seemingly very little as far as resources, but their happiness meter was overflowing nonetheless.
Emotions can be quite complicated, go figure lol. Being able to see the light even amongst the darkness of an abyss, will give you the ability to always see the bright side of any circumstance. Hope is basically a cookie crumb trail to happiness, we just need to have the endurance and discernment to follow.
