If we somehow do end up colonizing Mars, I think it would be quite bleak and more like a prison than anything else. Particularly for the lower class citizens.
Getting to Mars and bringing all the materials there to be able to sustain life for the long term is hideously expensive. Not to mention, extremely dangerous. After all, at any point between here and Mars, a million and one things could go wrong and there would be absolutely nothing that could be done. I also do not believe the giga rich people who would be funding this whole operation would be the ones putting in the labor. If the common population ever did see Mars, it would be for the back breaking work of setting up the colonies more than likely.
Once you get there, there is obviously no coming back due to the waste of fuel. We would be forced to live in these small bubbles on a dusty planet where there are no established laws or anything. That sounds terrible lol.
The ego to think we have the capabilities to create this paradise on a whole other planet while we still have yet to fix our problems down here, is astounding to me.
