Personally, I would say there are way more benefits to minimalism than detriments.
For one, you will ultimately spend less money on crap that has little to no purpose. Your mentality when shopping will evolve to look beyond the shiny and pretty traps of over consumerism. Instead you will notice things that may have multiple purposes that you would not have even thought of. Add to that, having smaller spaces to put stuff, means less things that can go in the first place.
Something I have personally noticed while getting rid of most of our belongings are the emotional ties we create with inanimate objects. Hoarding is a drastic example of this, and I have seen this personally with multiple people in my own family. This unhealthy attachment to things is a lot harder to focus on when you have less.
The peace that comes when you have an organized and decluttered space, is so important to one’s health. Your mind typically calms down quicker and easier without all the little distractions all over the place. Plus, your space feels dirty when it is cluttered and we are not animals.
Not to mention, if/when you find yourself having to move places, it is SO much easier and faster when you have less things as well. You no longer over burden yourself or others around you.
