My Ideal Life (DP#245)

—

The end all, be all for me is just finding somewhere that I love while doing something I love. The specific details can change and do change everyday it seems.

Ultimately, Kolton and I would love to be traveling around, taking pictures and doing writing of some sort. It would be cool to stay in places for a certain amount of time, maybe pick up some odd jobs here and there, or for a whole season. That way we could get a good idea of what that place has to offer.

Once we save enough money, we want to go in on some land either in a backwoods area in the US, or immigrate over to Japan, setting up a ranch or farm over there. As far as the house is concerned, it truly does not need to be anything fancy. A nice smaller cottage would be fine for us. With a gorgeous view of the countryside, maybe some mountains and hills thrown in.

I would have a nice garden for us to get some good and healthy food for once lol. Maybe have some chickens and cows at some point. The ultimate goal is to become as self-reliant as possible, without having to rely on mass production and heavy consumerism. While still having enough to share with neighbors, or those in need.

At the end of the day, if we are meant to be on this Earth for many more years to come, I would want it to be as peaceful a life as possible. Surrounded by people who do not cause ceaseless drama, in God’s creation.

  1. This was interesting. Why Japan?
There is such a great movie called ‘Tokyo Story’, which is just so beautiful and I couldn’t recommend more if you haven’t seen it already. It’s on you tube with English subtitles:

    1. Kolton and I have been interested in the Japanese culture for years, even attempting to learn the language. It just seems like a beautiful and respectful society as a whole. The countryside is so picturesque as well.
The social side of things is more up our alley as well.
I have not heard of that movie, so I will check it out!

      1. At least from the customs and societal aspects the movie should tick all the boxes.
Having said that, the cruelty of the Japanese in World War II was on another level.

      2. Nice!
Does the movie cover WWII? Grave of the Fireflies was a devastating movie showcasing the aftermath of the war. It is a watch it one time type of movie.

  2. In case you are interested here is my overview of the movie. It’s one of the greatest movies ever made:

  3. In case you are interested Ash I wrote an overview about the movie here:

    1. Thank you Matt!

      1. No, Tokyo Story doesn’t cover WWII. It’s set in aftermath and is a modest and quaint movie about a family.
        Have a great Monday Ash.

      2. Ah okay. I will check it out!
I hope you have a great Tuesday!

      3. You mean ‘Grave of the Fireflies’? I haven’t seen it, but it’s got amazing ratings. I hope I see it one day. Cheers.

      4. Yeah the Studio Ghibli film.
Such beautiful animation for the time but it tore me up for a solid couple days after. I had to take a break from all anime for a bit. Absolutely heartbreaking.

      5. It sounds like a very impactful and moving movie. I would definitely need to be in the right headspace to even attempt to watch it. But one to keep in mind for sure.

      6. I would recommend that for sure. I went into it completely blind which did not help lol.

      7. I hope I get to see it Ash.

  4. Sounds like you and Kolton have some wonderful plans, God willing – all fall into place, and you guys can make your dream become a reality!

    1. Thank you so much!
