Today, we were not able to complete as much today, however we have made progress with the rust on the driver’s side. Kolton took a wire brush wheel to take off as much of the surface stuff as possible, then he traced a stencil for the metal sheet that is going to go over the rusted-out parts. After that, he was able to put three coats of rustoleum to saturate that whole area. I have never used the stuff before but apparently it is supposed to soak into the rust, keeping it from spreading. Lord willing, it does its job lol
Also, something that is interesting about vans, at least the Ford Econoline, is that you can work on some of the mechanical stuff inside the van itself. That whole middle section where the center console typically is can come off, and it is known as the ‘doghouse’. Lol I don’t know, I thought it was cool.
We are letting the rust stuff soak in overnight, then we are going to attach the plate to the floor, then do the same process for the passenger side. Luckily, the rust began inside the van, so the beams underneath the van are good to go so we have plenty of solid support for the plate. I did not realize rustoleum is black, but it looks much better than the copper color of the rust for sure lol
Besides that, we had to change the brackets on the battery, clean up a bit more, and tried to fix one of the doors but we need the upper hinges for that still.
