Finding Our Home Part 3

We have got the van!!

Having spent the past week or so trying to find an extended van that was both in decent shape and decently priced, we have finally found the one. This leg of the journey has been one of the more stressful parts since I generally hate having to message random people and then work with both of our schedules to meet total strangers at their house. There are certain risks that you are forced to undertake when you are buying or selling which was causing my anxiety to spike through the roof.

Fortunately, these lovely women who were selling this van was not only very pleasant, but they were willing to give us a bit of a deal since we did have to tow it back due to the transmission being questionable. This is the perfect size, all the doors and lights work as well, which is more than what could be said about the other van we looked at.

Right now, the van is parked at a garage of a good friend who happens to be the assistant manager. They are already planning on giving it a full inspection then come back with their recommendations. We know there is going to be some work done to it, but we truly got a deal with it, so any money that we saved, will now go towards fixing it up.

Now that the van is insured, the next step is to get it registered which hopefully will not take but a few minutes. The repairs and inspections start tomorrow and however long all that takes, then we can finally begin the conversion. My husband and I will be overtaking the majority of the inside work, making it livable which is both terrifying and exciting.

It just feels crazy that we have made this much progress in this dream of ours. I genuinely cannot wait for van living to become a reality.

  1. Hi there, Ashley. I’m so glad you’ve now got your van, and from such fine, generous folk — and at such a bargain! I wish you all the best with its restoration and refurbishment. It should be both fun and challenging.

    1. Thank you so much! We for sure have quite a view plans for it so hopefully I can pick up the skills to make it look and feel the absolute best it could be.

      1. Please post on your progress and with photos if its not too much bother. Sweet!

      2. I will for sure! Once we get it all cleaned out, I will post pics of the inside.

      3. I can’t wait to see how you both will re engineer everything.

Oh I just wanted to say in this opportunity – like if you are all good and don’t like having to respond to my messages – then don’t feel obliged at all. I can be a bit over the top in my enthusiasm etc. I won’t be disheartened exactly if you just go – it’s not for me. So yeh..all good

      4. Thank you! I will be proactive about posting updates, particularly when I am able to finally get my hands on it.

      5. I totally screwed up that comment. I meant if you just go, then I’d miss you a tonne, but I understand.

      6. Lol I got you Matt. I just think I have been so socially bankrupt the past couple of weeks just having to speak to so many different and new people, that it is even harder to communicate with familiar people. My mom was over here yesterday, and I barely spoke to her. It is just a very exhausting season and being an introvert and feeling that energy drain already, I mentally cannot lol I will still comment you back, it may just take a bit longer to put my thoughts in order, so I do not sound like an incoherent neanderthal lol

      7. Oh no, you didn’t have to excuse yourself and I understand how much the recent events must have zapped energy from you. I get that way too. Like I said before I don’t expect a prompt response or any of that nonsense. And if you just carry on with business in your own life – well that’s more important especially since XMAS encroaches and family are the priority.
To lighten the mood I’ll send you Dylan’s Christmas song ‘Must Be Santa’ – which undoubtedly is my children’s favourite Christmas video:

      8. I appreciate it and I love that song by Dylan. Thank you for showing it to me!

      9. There’s another one by him which he didn’t want released which is also just so ‘out there’ and just so brilliant:

      10. The imagery is crazy with this one. Also, all the symbolism is vibrant. He was definitely going through some stuff.

      11. Y gano el Nobel en Literatura

      12. I wrote about an amazing song Latina called ‘Flaca’ which features my daughter. Katherine is crazy for that song Caribbean Wind and the author of the song is crazy Dylan:

      13. I had to double take that picture of your daughter since I could have sworn, she was giving a piggyback ride to a grown man lol Scared the crap outta me!
The English translation seems like an interesting song for sure.

      14. Equally, you scared the crap out of me lol But, yes I can see how it could be an optical illusion hehe
I wish you a great Saturday, ol friendo. Cheers Ash.

      15. Lol my bad. I was just shocked with how strong your daughter appeared. Little Miss Strong Man over here lol
Cheers to you! I hope you have had and are having a good weekend.

As you can see, I do not solely post book reviews, I also love posting daily prompt writing, as well as stuff that is going on in my life currently. That being said, my passion is reading and reviewing books to my heart’s content, so hopefully that is something you are also interested in.

I do have a Goodreads where you can follow if you desire (no pressure!) I also have a StoryGraph, of which you can follow me here.
