Favorite Physical Activity (DP#103)

—

Besides walking, that I have touched on before, I enjoy swimming probably the most.

As also mentioned previously, my asthma and physical activity do not get along which is why I have grown to love swimming.

The low impact nature of it mixed with the coolness of the water, makes it easier for me to swim for longer periods of time. And the fact that it is basically a full body workout in of itself, makes it a great option for losing weight and slimming up.

Swimming reminds me a lot of my childhood, making it even more enjoyable. My parents used to put up one of those above ground pools with the metal poles every summer. My birthday being in the summer, I would always have pool parties with my friends and family, and we would make whirlpools and play marco polo days on end. The scent of chlorine will forever be seared into my memory.

  1. It’s funny how when I go swimming on my recuperation days I realise how much I hate it, that I literally try to break up people on their turns by talking about how I hate it so much. I’m nearly out of people, but your post gave me another opportunity. Sorry Haha.

    1. Is there a particular reason you hate swimming?

      1. First off, I think it’s great that you enjoy swimming – and even better that it helps with your asthma. That’s awesome, and I regret just blurt out nonsense and being a downer on your upbeat post. lol

As for my earlier comments, I was exaggerating and should’ve been clearer. I love swimming in the ocean – catching waves, messing around, that whole carefree, no-rules vibe. But doing laps in a pool? Not my thing. I end up with water in my eyes, ears, and nostrils, and I sometimes feel a bit claustrophobic. Plus… it’s just kind of boring to me.

When I was younger, I naturally gravitated toward athletics and did really well in competition. Swimming was the complete opposite – I basically moved through the water like a block of concrete and lost every race by a mile. Hehe.

      2. Oh lol I was not offended by your distaste of swimming. I was just worried that maybe you had had a traumatic experience. My mom actually has a fear of the water due to her almost drowning when she was a child.

I get ya. I actually prefer swimming pools since I can see the bottom. Plus, you do not have to worry about stepping on any hooks or crab like creatures. There are no big waves over here to surf, but you can occasionally boogie board though.

The chlorine definitely does not feel too good in the eyes or nose, that’s for sure.

I am for sure not capable enough to competitively swim lol I do not know how they do that at all. The endurance and the agility is insane.

      3. I hope I did not pull up a bunch of trauma for you though!

What’s crazy is the fact that you have this deep-rooted memory and yet you were choosing to swim in the hectic as frick ocean? It’s like your subconscious did not find any harm or fear in that, but God forbid a swimming pool lol It is funny how the mind works. My mom is terrified of any body of water in which she cannot see and touch the bottom, or she cannot escape within a matter of seconds. It is pretty intense with her for sure.

I did not realize chlorine could mess with your eyes like that.

      4. Okay good! I am glad you were able to find peace with your past experience. Yeah she has not had to face the water in a while and does not really have to which is good for her.

Lol I know. I appreciate the comment Matt. I do wish the chlorine did not burn like it does though.

      5. Chlorine seems less of a problem these days than it used to be, and many pools are now saline as well.
Now I sound like The Pool Guy from Seinfeld lol and really I know diddly squat.

      6. Lol all good.
