My Favorite Subject in School (DP#69)

Back in Elementary school, my favorite was science, hands down. The teachers actually made it super fun and entertaining with all the little experiments and school-wide events that would take place every year. I remember I was so enthralled with science that I actually aced the TAKS test that we do at the end of the school year. My best friend who was in the class across the hall, aced it as well and there was a moment people thought we somehow cheated, but we were just both super into the subject lol Reading was a close second since grade levels would read the same book throughout the year and then, if there was a movie, we would have these huge movie days where we could bring snacks like an actual movie theater. Some of my best school memories are during these days.

In middle school, I was accepted into my school’s GT program, and I quickly started hating every subject lol Mainly because it was no longer about making the material fun, but making sure everybody passed the test at the end of the year. I made my very first ‘C’ at this time unfortunately and began struggling. This was also around the time the Twilight cultural phenomenon was happening, so I read the full series pretty quickly. I began reading more on my own time during these years, so I guess reading became my favorite subject.

In high school, I struggled to pay attention and focus yet again. I enjoyed English and Psychology the most during these years. I just HATED the books we had to read per the curriculum. Way to make a whole group of people hate reading: by forcing them to read mediocre YA dystopian novels. What was cool about that however was the actual author came and visited our school and spoke about her whole writing process which was pretty sick and redeemed themselves a bit.

Basically, I have always enjoyed reading, I had a steep falling out with science, and I never even knew math on a personal level lol I just realized I totally forgot about social studies and history……that about explains that relationship, I guess. I will say as I am older, I do have a better appreciation for history, I just found it immensely boring in school. Again, mainly due to HOW it was taught.

About Me

Hello! I am Ashley and I simply love to read, and hope you do to!
I am currently 29 years old and living in the state of Texas, USA.

My favorite genres to read and review include romance, fantasy, mystery, and many subgenres of those as long as it is clean. I mainly get my books from my Kindle Unlimited membership, but I also found myself checking out library books on Libby as well.

As you can see, I do not solely post book reviews, I also love posting daily prompt writing, as well as stuff that is going on in my life currently. That being said, my passion is reading and reviewing books to my heart’s content, so hopefully that is something you are also interested in.

I do have a Goodreads where you can follow if you desire (no pressure!) I also have a StoryGraph, of which you can follow me here.
