House Selling Process: The Sequel

As mentioned yesterday, the photographer came by and snapped photos of the entire property. He then went back through the house with the 3D camera so buyers will be able to “walk” the house on the computer which is pretty sick. That whole process only took about thirty or so minutes, so we got some sun in this lovely weather we have been having for once.

While he was inside the house, our realtor came back over to make sure things were going smoothly. He explained the process going forward with agents scheduling walk-throughs with people and how we would obviously have to leave the property while they are here. He put one of those lock box thingies on the door and we officially have a “For Sale” sign outside so if it was not real yet, it for sure is now lol. The actual listing should go live either today or tomorrow so we could be getting appointments super quick.

My father-in-law had not mentioned anything to our neighbors yet, so we had a couple of them come over and low-key complain about having to worry about new neighbors. I was just like, sorry not sorry. Maybe you should not have such a bad attitude about it and that is not our problem to begin with lol

While all this is going on, we had to put the truck back into the shop to fix something with the front-end. The same side this shop supposedly fixed about a year ago…. Luckily it seems it is still under warranty, so they are going to go ahead and knock out both sides. Lord willing, they do not screw anything up and actually FIX IT this time. Thankfully, our niece gets dropped off, so we do not have a glaring need for a vehicle right now. The mechanic guy said they should be done today anyways so we shall see.

That about wraps up this saga for now, as we have entered the waiting phase before people actually start looking but I will keep this chapter updated as new events happen.

    “Which is pretty sick.” Haha — that expression’s still doing the rounds with you young folk, huh? lol. But you’re right — the whole walk-through thing is sick! lol. I suppose people can also check out the house and neighbourhood on Google Street View too, which is pretty rad, huh? (Is saying rad still cool?)

    Oh yeah, you’ve got the “For Sale” sign up — it’s happening, sister! The other expression I liked was “low-key complain” — that one gave me a chuckle. I can see why the neighbours might be apprehensive, and I hope the truck comes back hunky-dory.

    Looking forward to reading more about this ongoing saga, my friend.

      Lol I am not letting that saying die! Yeah they should be able to look around the neighborhood as well. Rad is still around, but it is more niched I would say.

      Yeah, the ‘low-key’ term is another favorite of mine. It is satisfying to say for some reason lol I can see the apprehension as well since of all the horror stories of neighbors from heck. They are not the friendliest people either which was the stupid part. The truck seems to be fixed for now which is great thankfully.

        I rarely get the chance to chat with younger adults like yourself — and from another country, no less — so I find it fascinating to pick up on the differences in language and mindset. Don’t mind me if I get a little too curious, haha.

        I’m sorry to hear your neighbours aren’t so friendly. Hopefully, before long (all going well), they’ll be out of your hair. The place I live now — and have for over five years — is the quietest, most peaceful neighbourhood I’ve ever known, and I’ve lived in dozens of places both here and in Australia. I honestly hope the day never comes when the owner asks me to leave, because I’d cry like a frickin’ baby for eternity. Call me a wuss, but it’s true — I love it here.

        Same! I have always wanted to know somebody from Australia particularly so that is pretty cool!

        Its alright. There are always some crazy people around you at any given time lol Your place seems like a dream. I have always lived in the suburbs of a busy city, so I have never known what a peaceful and quiet home feels like. I hope you can live long there!

        Thank you about the truck. The front end seems better but it does almost have 200 thousand miles on it so it is just a matter of time until something else breaks lol.

        Oh, I live in the suburbs of a busy city, but its just that this particular suburb is somehow miraculously quiet. I actually think it’s the ‘Intelligence community’ hub of Colombia’s military. The security and cleanliness is second to none – not to mention its close proximity to the best class of shops, banks, discotheques, cinemas and restaurants (u name it lol) one could hope for. For the same quality of living in Melbourne, I’d be paying at least 5 times more for the equivalent accommodation and alimentation. I hope to buy a place one day in this immediate locality.

        What kind of truck do you guys own anyhow? Is it a chevy or an actual truck truck lol? Yeh, 200 miles is a lot! So you will sell it to help buy your RV?

        Your place sounds amazing, particularly the quiet and the cleanliness. Do people drive their own vehicles more or do they mainly use public transportation where you live? I can imagine it is quite a bit cheaper than Melbourne, as with the US. O have seen property taxes alone on our area being over $4000 a year.

        It’s easily my favourite place to live – the immediate neighbourhood and apartment – I mean.

        My favourite city to live is Melbourne despite being born in Sydney. Melbourne has just amazing, arts, culture and sports – comparable in feel to a European city.

        I thinks its an even mix between people driving, scootering / biking and using public transport. What about where you are? Those property taxes are so high!

        I can see that! Particularly those cheaper prices lol

        Australia is such a beautiful and rugged place with many different climates and terrains so I can see your love for the country, besides being a national of course.

        People mainly drive their own vehicles by far, since Texas is so large and goes from suburban to rural really quick, it is kind of a necessity. Besides that, you do see a lot of bikers, but our roads are not bike friendly. Unless you are in downtown areas which are getting more accessible to biking and scooters. You have to be thinking about those taxes all year long. It is like a boss fight that you know is coming up and never actually dies lol

        One of my favourite indie movies is called ‘Paris, Texas’ which I need to revisit since it’s been so long. The rugged scenery put to Ry Cooder’s haunting slide guitar soundtrack is something special. I would like to visit your state one day, when I win the lottery ;-P

        I have to hand it to Bogota, it is packed with neat bicycle / scooter lanes every which where.

        They should just take the property taxes out of people’s taxes, but in increments so as not to cause this mounting annual stress event! A boss fight that never dies sounds like very frightening thing indeed hehe.

        I have actually never been there but I have seen videos of it. Definitely a beautiful and interesting place, with its own little Eiffel Tower lol Feel free! I would just not recommend coming in the summer or during the tornado season.

        I love places with bicycle lanes! Seeing people out and about has always been cozy to me.

        Yeah, I mean, they say property taxes goes towards the local school districts and things, but I see no evidence of that whatsoever. Plus, they keep nickel and diming everyone through all the props we can vote on, claiming that it is going to Parkinsons research or something. I am like since when was it the public’s job to pay for medical research? Lol as I was writing this, a commercial came on for some guy who was running for representative or something who was promising to lower the outrageous property taxes. They are stalking the interwebs lol

        Oh, you seem to already know so much about the place – Paris, Texas. The only reference to it in the film is from a photo of a barren, empty plot – a dream. It’s where the protagonist ‘Travis’ believes he was conceived. I just looked up the Eiffel tower – how cool. Thanks for the heads up on when not to come!

        You mentioned how, right after you wrote about property taxes, a commercial came on with a politician talking about—lo and behold—property taxes. It’s uncanny how that happens. Even when I just talk about a topic or watch a certain movie, it seems to pop up again later, almost like my devices have been eavesdropping and sharing my research.

        While I have not been in the city itself, I have been through that county and yeah there are areas of barren flatness for sure. That sounds like an interesting movie lol No problem! It truly gets really hot up here in the summer.

        I hate it when that happens because it truly makes me paranoid to speak around my devices. It is also voting season in the US, so the commercials make more sense, I just get so annoyed with it all lol Taxes suck, lets finally do something about it.

        I didn’t even know it was a city – it’s just been lodged in my memory as just a ‘lot’ and little else. And get this — ever since I mentioned Paris, Texas here, my YouTube feed has been flooded with stuff about it.

        As for taxes, I’m not all that disheartened — speaking from an Australian perspective, that is. Property taxes and how they’re spent, I can’t really comment on, but it doesn’t sound too hunky-dory where you are.

        Australia operates on a progressive tax system, and I appreciate how transparently they show taxpayers where their money goes — right down to the cent. In the Americas — and especially in Colombia — I’ve noticed people will do just about anything to avoid paying them. It’s as if they think they’re being robbed, rather than contributing to the greater good: infrastructure, education, health, you name it. What really gets under my skin is when the wealthy stash away their profits and dodge paying their fair share.

        Transparency and taxes in the same sentence?! Lol yeah that does not happen here at all. I have known people that haven’t filed income taxes in years. Personally, I choose to file even if I know I will owe just out of fear of the IRS hunting me down. I have been audited one year for screwing something up when I was attempting to file my own taxes and it scared the crap out of me.
        Plus, the companies that charge you out the butt to help or do your taxes for you is so toxic. I get when people think we are being robbed here for sure because of the lack of transparency here. Plus, it will be years down the line when an investigation comes out that tax money is what funded some silly project or movement that was never voted on to use taxpayer to begin with. The wealthy people who refuse to pay into the pool is what gets me as well. It seems the IRS only goes after the poorer people even though they never get nearly as much out of them due to the tax brackets. Make it make sense. Tax season is the absolute worst time of year.

        Personally, I find it one of the most abhorrent and obnoxious things — not declaring one’s income. ‘It’s for the betterment of you, your local community, your state, and your nation — numbskulls’! Haha. Just the thought of it makes my skin crawl. So I commend you, Ashley, for doing the right thing. And I’m not downplaying or doubting your scepticism about how those funds are used, or the lack of transparency where you are.

        Here in Colombia, I have to pay tax (from my pension) to the Australian Government as a “non-resident,” which means I contribute far more to my home country than otherwise — even though I no longer live there. I suppose the logic is that what I spend here goes into the Colombian economy, not Australia’s. So that’s that.

        I agree. Like the rich are always obnoxious about how much they make on any other day so why shut up when its taxes are due? I get you are in a higher bracket so you are probably going to be paying in more but that is what you get when you make way more than most people. Nobody should necessarily trust their government, but you still have to do what everyone else has to do. It just sucks because they could afford the legal fees is the IRS did come after them and some people seem to think it less of a hassle playing the system like that.

        Do they do dual citizenship there or are you on a sort of visa? That is a bit insane, but I do understand the thought process. That would be hecka annoying to me lol

        No, I’m not in a higher bracket at all. I’m treated as a ‘non resident’ so they tax me higher – more specifically they tax my ‘tax free threshold’ up to about $19000 (which they don’t do to ‘residents for tax purposes’) and the remainder. I know it’s confusing and I don’t expect almost anyone to understand. But anyhows.

        I have a permanent visa (Foreigner) due to my children’s dual citizenship (Colombian-Australians). So basically I got that visa because my kids were born here. If not, I certainly wouldn’t be here or have a visa for that matter.

        So…how’s the house listing going? – have you guys had more interest from prospective buyers?

        Ah I see, that actually does make sense. Lol I am a very unknowledgeable adult when it comes to taxes and things.

        I know green cards are a thing here for marriage purposes, but I think adults can still be deported even if their children were born here. Do not quote me on that though as I keep getting conflicting answers plus it depends on the individual state on top of that, it is hideous. It is interesting how different countries deal with immigration.

        We actually had a viewing yesterday and a promising message from our realtor! Trying to stay hopeful and optimistic!! Thank you for asking.

        Lol yeah there are reality TV shows about green card marriages. It has gotten quite popular here which if you genuinely love the person, I have no issue. However it sometimes seems like the green card is the main reason behind these relationships.

        People who consider marriage as nothing more than the ‘fast track’ to citizenship, that is pathetic yes. Marriage should be taken seriously, not as a means to an end. If love is the main motivator, then go for it, I think. It is expensive for sure but if you are willing to dish all that cash out, that could be good indicator that they love their person quite a bit. It really depends on the people.

        Ugh I clicked send too early lol. We actually have a GMC Sierra 1500 SLE. It was actually my husband’s grandpa’s truck before he passed which explains the mileage. My father-in-law is going to be keeping it after everything is said and done.

        It is alright for sure. It has gotten us hundreds of miles at a time and back, so it is quite reliable. At this point, it is just old and having the real issues that my FIL will now have to worry about lol

        You have to feel grateful when well-used machinery or appliances – like your truck – have paid dividends through their hearty and dependable reliability. I feel the same way about my LG products: the washing machine, smart TV, fridge, microwave, and even my mobile phone! The latter no longer has service in Colombia, but that hardly matters – it’s long outstayed a typical phone’s shelf life, and it was sooo cheap!

        Oh yeah, it has definitely taken us far and wide. It is just not the most reliable since you never know when it will start making a new noise lol
        I have heard LG was a good brand! Phones being cheap?! Lol electronics are so expensive here.
